Description

Course Description: This introductory course offers a welcoming introduction to British Sign Language (BSL), designed for anyone interested in learning the basics of visual communication and understanding the experiences of Deaf individuals. You will explore core BSL vocabulary, everyday conversational signs, and simple structures that build confidence in communicating visually. By the end of the course, you will have gained a basic understanding of BSL, increased awareness of Deaf culture, and practical skills that you can apply in both personal and professional settings.

Session 1: Deaf awareness, hearing loss impact, structure of a visual language. Key communication signs, name, places, questions

Session 2: Key signs for communication, travel, numbers, workplace & emergency/safety

Session 3: Story building, sector specific signs, legislation, equality and diversity in education and workplaces for Deaf/Hard of hearing communities
